Fall is upon us and First Church of Christ, Congregational, UCC is having several events to kick off the season.

Sunday, October 2 at noon: Dr. Janelle Carroll from the University of Hartford will be presenting an informal gathering to discuss questions regarding sexuality that we wonder about but didn’t know how to ask as part of First Church’s ongoing discussion about becoming a more inclusive and welcoming church.

Wednesday, October 5 at 10 a.m.: Wednesday Bible Study discussing the Acts of the Apostles from the Listen Up! Series

Sunday, Oct 9 and 23 at 10 a.m.: “Hands on Faith” is a new program that is replacing traditional Sunday school. It is an interactive, scripture based, missions oriented gathering for children in grades K-7 and will meet on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Childcare for children birth to four years is provided each week during worship.

Wednesday, October 12 at noon: Communion Luncheon in the Ebenezer Gay Room.

Sunday, October 16 at 6 p.m.: Sunday evening Chapel Service in the Smith Chapel .

Sunday, October 23 at 4 p.m.: Music on High Concert Series presents “Vox Illuminae”-an ensemble of five young musical professionals from the Hartford area who are led by Noah Smith, Minister of Music at First Church. Mary DiRoberts (soprano), Riley Blaakman (alto), Josh Lara (tenor), Keith Sisterhemn (bass) and Noah have been performing together for over a year. Vox Illuminae are also skilled instrumentalists and will perform a wide genre of choral and instrumental compositions including musicals, Baroque, opera and other classical selections accompanied by piano, flute and trombone. This concert promises to be a radiant and eclectic musical performance. Suggested donation of $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, students and First Church members. A reception will follow the performance.

First Church is embarking on a journey in 2016 with “Feeding Children Everywhere,” a social charity that empowers and mobilizes people to assemble healthy meals for hungry children and families around the world. Founded by Don and Kristen Campbell in 2010 around a small table with a love of food and helping others, they have witnessed the impact a shared meal could make and were inspired to multiply this empowerment with the world. First Church’s mission is to provide 10,000 healthy meals by hosting a Hunger Project in Fellowship Hall on October 23. Volunteers will participate in a hands-on assembly line system to package the meals. We are hoping to raise $2,500 to package these meals. Anyone interested in making a monetary donation and becoming a “hunger hero” can contact the First Church office for more details.

Sunday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m.: BOO TOUR! Explore the cemetery behind First Church.

These events are for all ages and open to all. We are located at 81 High St.
