Suffield Local Prevention CouncilThe mission of the Suffield Local Prevention Council (SLPC) is to have members of the Suffield community, who have the shared goal of increasing substance abuse awareness, working together to provide information on prevention and available help resources while supporting a stigma free vision of addiction as an illness. We are working with the Capital Area Substance Abuse Council (CASAC) with a focus on prevention, education and community awareness.

In support of these goals, the SLPC will sponsor a Public Forum on November 17 at 7 p.m. in the Suffield Middle School auditorium. We will discuss substance abuse concerns from local law enforcement and medical perspectives, as well as personal stories of the risks of substance abuse and an overview of ways to get help, support and treatment.

Speakers will include Richard Brown, Deputy Chief and Christopher McKee, Captain of the Suffield Police Department; Art Groux, EMS Chief of Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association; Leslie Offenbach, Youth Services Director for the Town of Suffield; Dr. David Herr, Medical Director of the ER at Johnson Memorial Hospital; a life-long Suffield resident who is willing to share his story of using substances and beginning the journey into recovery; another Suffield resident will share her personal experience of dealing with a family member’s use of substances and the impacts to the family.

A question and answer session will follow with all presenters addressing issues and concerns with Forum attendees.

Together we can be so much more effective, working to reduce the damage of alcohol and drug abuse to our families, our friends, and our community. If you are interesting in participating with the SLPC, please contact Leslie Offenbach, Youth Services Director, at 860-668-3329 or at loffenbach@suffieldct.gov.
