Among the continuing improvements at the Suffield Police Department, one task is being done by an intern from Manchester Community College (MCC). Sophia Marder is a sophomore at MCC, earning her associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. A native of Northborough, Mass., she moved to Vernon with her father and, through a college friend, managed to get an opportunity for a ride-along in a Windsor Police patrol. There she met Lt. Chris McKee, now Capt. McKee of the Suffield PD, and he recruited her for the intern’s work here.

Under McKee’s supervision in Suffield, Sophia is updating the standard forms used in the department’s work. This task is among the changes being implemented under Chief Richard Brown in the spirit established during the temporary regime of interim Chief Anthony Riello.

Sophia plans to continue her studies at Central Connecticut State University next year, working toward a bachelor’s in social work. She explains that she wants to make a difference in the world.
