It’s known by Suffield residents as “the event” that signals the farewell to summer and the unofficial start of fall. It’s a happy time where friends and acquaintances, young and young-at-heart, re-unite and catch up amidst children’s laughter, dogs barking and live music playing.

In case you’re new to town, this gathering takes place on the Town Greens in the historic, scenic center of town the weekend after Labor Day. Hosted by the Friends of Suffield, the annual event features booths by local businesses and organizations like Scouts, religious groups, emergency services and more.

And let’s not forget the always-popular tradition of the Craft Fair. In its 48th year, the Craft Fair showcases crafters’ beautiful and original, hand-made pieces. Plus … this year, the Friends of Suffield organization is delighted to offer some new treats at Suffield on the Green and Craft Fair.

NEW: Four-legged friends to converge on Green.

Dogs! In addition to the much beloved Canine Contest on Sunday (see box for details), Sunday’s offerings will include a furry display by local pet rescue group Hole in One Animal Rescue. This local non-profit will have adoptable dogs, information and games to play (with cool prizes). Find out how the pet adoption process works and meet some pets.

NOTE: No pets will be available to take home during the event. Only those people who have applied and been pre-approved prior to the event can potentially pick up pets on Sunday. If you’re interested in adopting, follow this link to see the pets available and begin the paperwork process in advance: www.holeinoneanimalrescue.com

Donations encouraged! Please visit the Suffield on the Green web page to find out what items Hole in One Animal Rescue needs. Some things might surprise you. Any contribution – whether a pet item/food or monetary donation – is greatly appreciated!

Ponies! On Saturday, children can enjoy pony rides between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Rides are $3 per ticket, courtesy of Star Pony Parties. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Suffield disbursement fund, which is the source for annual grants to local causes that enhance the town and its residents. NOTE: There will be age/weight limits specified at the event based on size of ponies. Parents/guardians must be present and sign releases.

Also New: Cold treats!

Want to wet your whistle with a cool sweet treat? Stop by the Ice Cream Cart on the Middle Green, near the gazebo, for an ice cream “novelty” – wrapped favorites like ice cream sandwiches. This cart is generously sponsored by Maple Hill Farms – and sweet treats are just a dollar each, all weekend!

Last but not least

Ride the free Shuttle Bus Service on the Suffield Mini Bus. It will leave approximately every 20 minutes from the Suffield Academy Parking Lot on Mountain Road (look for the blue balloons). The Service is a short, safe ride to and from Suffield on the Green.

KID ZONE! The action-packed event will include a dedicated Kid Zone on the North Green all weekend. Tickets can be purchased for time in an Inflatable Bounce House and brand new Obstacle Course.

Food and music: Head down to the South Green for delicious food prepared by volunteer groups, as well as entertainment and live music of many genres.

Net proceeds raised are given back to the community through grants. Contributions are welcome – and appreciated – at the Friends of Suffield booth, located near the gazebo. You can get maps of all exhibitor and vendor locations at the Friends of Suffield booth as well. Or visit our website ahead of time and download and print maps of all the exhibitors.
