Ideas Needed for Suffield’s 350th Anniverary Celebration

If you had a chance to visit the Town of Suffield booth at Suffield on the Green last month, then you saw some great photos and memorabilia from Suffield’s 300th anniversary celebration in 1970. We hope the display gave you some ideas for events, programs, and projects that we should be planning for the town’s 350th anniversary coming up in 2020.

Lots of people shared their ideas for events, everything from a beard contest to the world’s largest farm-to-table dinner! Parades are popular, how about a tractor parade and a horse & buggy parade? Contests for youngest and oldest resident, a tractor pull, and outdoor decorating were all suggested. Last but not least, folks want to see us have events like a water park party, a beer fest, and a Polish party with a polka band!

Suggestions were not all fun and games. People are interested in programs that highlight town history and artifacts and local Native American history. Folks also proposed that we create a 350th anniversary poster, a town calendar with facts and photos, commemorative plates, mugs, and key chains, and also that we ask our new neighbor, Broad Brook Brewing, to come up with a special beer just for Suffield.

What do you think we should do?

Please get your ideas in to the 350th Anniversary Celebration Committee now. You can post your ideas @Suffield350 on Facebook and Instagram, or email ideas to Suffield350@SuffieldTownHall.com. Also email us to volunteer to work on events or projects.
