Stock Market Game Begins October 2

Middle School and High School can sign up to play the Stock Market Game beginning October 2. The Connecticut Stock Market Game is sponsored by SIFMA (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association). Students can work individually or form teams to spend $100,000 in virtual money to build a diversified investment portfolio of stocks. Trades happen in real time so students experience how real-world events impact the capital market. A prize will be awarded to the top team or individual. Register on the Kent Memorial Library website.

Suffield Students Unleash Stories for Teen Reads Week

The Kent Memorial Library and the libraries at Suffield High School and Suffield Middle School are working together during the American Library Association’s Teen Reads Week October 8-14.

For starters, Kent Memorial Library is sponsoring a Teen Flash Fiction Contest for Suffield teens 6-12 grade. There is no fee. Just answer the following prompt to unleash your story: “You are an ordinary kid on any ordinary day. The sky is shining, the birds are singing. You are walking to the bus stop when……” The word limit is 500-750. Prizes of teen-related gift baskets will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. Look to the suffield-library.org website for more information. Submissions begin Sunday, October 8 and end Thursday, October 12 at noon. Winners will be announced Friday morning.

#Wildcats Read!

New this year, KML, Suffield High and Middle School will begin using the hashtag #WildcatsRead! to connect the campaign and the community to Facebook and Instagram and Twitter accounts for Kent Memorial Library, @suffieldlibraryteens and Suffield school sites. Use #WildcatsRead! on your pics and posts and join the campaign to get Suffield reading! Also check out the KML Pinterest page!

All libraries will feature special displays and incentives to get kids who are in grades 6-12 reading and sharing. Please look on the suffield.org website and on the suffield-library.org website, as well as  on Facebook @KentMemorialLibrarySuffield for more information and details about events.
