Photo provided by Tami Zawistowski to the Suffield Historical Society

This puzzling group of eight young folks was found among ca. 1910 estate papers acquired by the donor, an ephemera dealer as well as State Representative. The scene at the unique Benjamin Ruggles monument in Suffield’s Old Center Cemetery is abundantly clear. But why did they gather here and why the strange garb? The monument, with its carved name painted white (for the occasion?), dates from 1858, the 150th anniversary of Rev. Ruggles’ death. Are these folks celebrating the 200th? The Suffield Historical Society would welcome your answers.
