Matthew Skoczylas and Liam Duffy

I have been fortunate enough that I have been able to choose not one, but two students of the month! For the month of December, our two lucky recipients are Matthew Skoczylas and Liam Duffy.

Matt is currently a junior at Suffield High School, where he is currently enrolled in a number of AP and Honors courses, including French V Honors. During the past few months as a student in my class, Matt has proven himself to be a very dynamic student who actively participates in all activities. He consistently makes efforts to communicate only in the target language in French, and always encourages his classmates to do the same in order to immerse himself into the language and culture. Matt always thinks out of the box, and uses his creativity to the fullest in order to maximize his use of French, both inside and outside of class. His understanding of grammar and vocabulary is extensive, and he takes every opportunity to not only use what he knows, but to continue to expand on his knowledge to continue to improve his already outstanding command of the French language. Outside of French class, Matt enjoys math class, and is an avid skier and cyclist.

Similarly to Matt, Liam is also currently a junior at Suffield High School, where he is enrolled in many AP and Honors level classes, including the same section of French V Honors. Liam has the ability to not only use his command and love of the French language to consistently communicate, but also to encourage others to consistently communicate in French as well. He expresses enthusiasm and creativity for every activity and assignment in order to fully immerse himself and further his learning of the French language and culture. He frequently participates, and always does so with a positive attitude. Liam shows steady growth and improvement in French, and always takes opportunities to expand upon and apply his knowledge of the French language and culture when possible. As well as excelling in French class and his love of the French language, Liam also enjoys his AP English and AP Government classes, and participates in theater and acting whenever possible. He recently showed his stellar acting skills as a member of the Suffield High School Drama Club’s fall production of Almost, Maine.

Please join me in congratulating both Matt and Liam as the recipients of the World Language Students of the Month for December. Their commitment to going above and beyond and consistent efforts to communicate and further expand their knowledge of French language and culture are outstanding! I am honored to nominate both of these exemplary young men for this distinction.
