An intent student pokes at the soil she is examining in a prior year’s Tinkergarten class.

Local Tinkergarten leaders, Sasha Zatyrka and Julie Beliveau, are thrilled to host their spring Tinkergarten classes at the beautiful Hilltop Farm at 1616 Mapleton Ave., Suffield, Conn. The final free trial class at Hilltop will be offered on April 5.

Julie’s full eight-week spring season of classes will take place each Saturday beginning April 14. Sasha’s ten-week spring season on Thursdays is already full with a waitlist. All classes take place 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The outdoor, mixed age classes for children ages 18 months to 8 years old follow a progressive, evidence-based curriculum that promotes the development of key skills including self-reliance, creativity, persistence, and problem solving. Parents and caregivers take part in the class with their children and together they sing songs, learn class rituals, and engage in open-ended, play-based activities that allow the children to direct their own play, which is the most enriching way for children to learn. Tinkergarten classes are unique in the world of early childhood classes, easing many parents’ concerns about their child sitting still or being quiet or doing the “right” thing like the other kids. Tinkergarten values the various ways that children learn and leaders guide parents to allow their children to move freely during classes as they engage in the dynamic natural environment and the multi-faceted class activities.

Summer classes will take place at Sasha’s original location at the lush New England Trail at Rising Corner directly on the Suffield/Agawam/Southwick line at 1 Rising Corner Road, Agawam, Mass., with free trial classes on June 26, July 5, and July 12 and the full 6-week summer season every Thursday, beginning July 19.

Spots are limited, so sign up early. More information and registration can be found at tinkergarten.com/classes.
