Spring is a busy time for everyone, and the Suffield Garden Club is really busy right now. Our members are getting ready for our annual May Market at the Phelps-Hatheway House Barn in Suffield. As always, our May Market is held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturday, May 12 before Mother’s Day. And yes, admission is free.

Members are making unique garden ornaments, casting tufa planters, and digging and potting up plants from their perennial gardens. Our artists in residence are painting decorative items and planning floral designs for Mother’s Day arrangements. There will be many gifts that Mom would love to receive on her special day. Succulent planters, tea cup floral arrangements, hanging floral baskets and much more will be offered for sale.

You will find some unexpected treasures at our Collectibles Booth. We are expanding our new and used Garden and Household Tools Booth where we will have just what you need at low bargain prices. A very popular item last year was the awesome Spear Head Spade. This handy and durable spade will be offered this year in all sizes. Look for it at our Suffield Garden Club Booth. Every gardener needs this shovel.

Delectable pies, cakes and cookies will be available at our Gourmet Foods Booth. You will find a vast assortment of homemade gourmet offerings at this booth in the barn. We will have a select group of hard to find shrubs, perennials and appealing planters at our Specialty Plants Booth. As always we will have available the best geraniums around, at the lowest prices you will find anywhere, and locally grown. They sell out quickly.

Many vendors from the surrounding area will return this year. New vendors from our region will be anxious to show their wares as well. They will be set up in the barn and outdoors on the barnyard grounds. Heirloom garden plants, herbs, honey, preserves, homemade garden decor, artwork, and crafts will be for sale.

The Suffield Garden Club is a non-profit organization. Proceeds from this event support Suffield civic beautification, high school scholarships, as well as conservation, horticulture, and garden therapy programs. We hope you will come out, enjoy the day and support this popular event.
