Girl Scout Silver Award Projects

Two Scout projects from Troop 10983 are being completed by the teams of Veronica Jacobs and Samantha Chapman and Katie Uzdarwin and Suyannah Ruiz. The Girl Scout Silver Award is the second-highest award for Girl Scouts and the highest award that a cadette can earn. To earn a Silver Award you are required to help improve your community in some way.

For their Silver Award, Veronica and Samantha made a reflection room for McAlister. A reflection room is a room where people go to calm down. They painted the room, painted a mural, covered the lights to dim them, put yogibos and textured material in the room.

They earned money with fundraisers. The most successful one was a Family Movie Night with refreshments and popcorn. People enjoyed that fundraiser and they received a positive feedback after it.

Thanks go to the Second Baptist Church of Suffield, Suffield Youth Theater  and Suffield Cub Scouts who helped with the Family Movie Night fundraiser; Carr Hardware & Supply Co., Enfield Paint and Suffield Hardware who helped with supplies and paint for the room, and Friends of Suffield who gave a grant that helped complete the room. Thanks also go to Mrs. Karen Carpenter-Snow, the Principal of McAlister Middle School for all her help and cooperation.

Katie and Suyanna’s Silver Award project is raising money for pickleball, a game popular with seniors. Their first fundraiser was a family game/bingo night, with great prizes. The second fundraiser will be a car wash to be held on Saturday, June 9 starting at 10 a.m. at the Suffield Senior Center. Bring your cars for a good cleaning and support the project!
