There was probably litttle doubt that Peyton Cahn would attend Suffield Academy: her multi-talented mother helps run the place, her grandfather is an impressively versatile member of the faculty and her father is headmaster.

Suffield Academy’s 185th Commencement was on May 25. The event took place on Bell Hill with the beautiful and nearly complete Memorial Building Academic Center as a backdrop.

Headmaster Charlie Cahn led the ceremony and was joined by Board of Trustees President Fred Powers ’83, in presenting awards and diplomas to the 122 graduating seniors.

The Commencement speaker was David J. Rockwell ’58, a member of the Suffield Academy for 54 years. A beloved teacher and mentor to thousands of students, Rocky is also the father of four Suffield Academy alumni and grandfather to Peyton Cahn ’18. In introducing Rocky, Headmaster Cahn said, “His years of dedication to our school set a mark that will likely never be surpassed. Through periods of historical, political, and cultural change, Rocky has had the fascinating opportunity of seeing the world’s evolution through the lens of Suffield Academy.”

Dave Rockwell’s talk focused on the importance of finding our life paths, staying on them when they are not as straight as we expect, and learning from experience.

Suffield’s 122 graduating seniors will head to more than 80 different colleges and universities. The 16 Suffield residents are Hattie Bauchiero, Peyton Cahn, Matteo Calderon, Bridget Carey, Tim Casey, Milan Ghosh, Caleigh Horrigan, John Killam, Matt McCoy, James Mignone, Lexi Mnich, Carlin Molander, Matt Moryto, Kate Rookey, Arianna Saxton, and Joe Yunis.
