People Food & Pet Food Drive at the Polls to Benefit SCA Food Pantry

SCA volunteers will hold a benefit food and pet food drive at the election polls (Suffield Middle School) on Tuesday, November 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are especially in need of pet food, personal care & cleaning items. Cash and grocery store gift cards are also welcome donations. Check out the SCA’s Website at www.suffieldcommunityaid.org for specific items that are currently needed.

Dementia Care Giver Support Group

Build a support system and meet with others who understand. The group will meet the last Tuesday of the month at 450 South Street at 11 a.m.. You do not need to be a resident to attend. The group will be led by a trained Alzheimer’s Association facilitator. Call the SCA for more info.

Are You in Need of a Little Holiday Cheer? 

Apply for the SCA’s Holiday Basket Program: The SCA is coordinating the Thanksgiving and Holiday Basket Program for Suffield residents who are struggling financially. Residents wishing to receive help for the holidays are encouraged to call Janet at the SCA to see if they qualify at 860-668-1986.

Stay Warm This Winter! 

We Are Taking Applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program. These government programs are designed to help offset the winter heating costs for financially eligible household so that their health is not jeopardized by the inability to afford critical heat. Please contact SCA to schedule an appointment at 860-668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at www.ct.gov/staywarm.

Medicare is Confusing! Do You Want to Know More About Your Medicare “CHOICES”?

CHOICES is the Connecticut program that provides counseling and information for seniors on such topics as Medicare, Medicaid & Medicare Supplement Insurance. The SCA is scheduling appointments with certified CHOICES counselors. Call for an appointment 860-668-1986.

Parkinson’s Peer Support Group Meets Monthly at Suffield Senior Center

 The group’s goal is to share ideas and resources in the management and treatment of Parkinson’s disorder. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month from 10:15 a.m.–11:15 a.m. Topics and speakers vary monthly. Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Topics vary monthly. Suffield Community Aid sponsors free blood pressure clinics for residents of all ages at the Suffield Senior Center on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 11:00AM- 12:00p.m. No appointments needed!

Are You a Low or Moderate Income Homeowner in Need of Some Critical Home Repairs?

You may be eligible for a deferred payment loan with no interest through the Ellington Regional Housing Rehab Program for Suffield homeowners. The loan can be used for roofing, septic, well, plumbing, heating, electrical, handicap accessibility, asbestos/lead abatement, carpentry and other repair work on single and multi-family units up to four units. Call SCA at 860-668-1986 or call the Ellington Community Development Office directly at 860-870-3132 on Tuesdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for more info.
