On May 8, Suffield residents approved a $59.3 million Town budget, which is an increase of 1.64 percent. The vote was 69-46 in favor.

The main topic of discussion was the Board of Education’s (BoE) tentative decision to go to pay-to-play as a way to address the $500,000 cut in its proposed budget. Many citizens felt that this plan was inappropriate and argued against it. A pay-to-play plan is yet to be determined by the BoE.

Ryan Anderson, Chairman of the Board of Finance stated that the tax rate for 2019-2020 will be 28.72 mills. However, because of a re-evaluation, taxpayers will get higher tax bills this year, although the tax rate will decrease.
