Local kids enjoy refreshments during the grand opening of the Common Room – Community Space at the Second Baptist Church. From the left: Charlotte Boone, Addie Begin, and March Boone.

A dedicated group of people at Second Baptist Church spent the summer transforming the Kneece Chapel into a space that is open to the community. The Common Room at Second Baptist now features a beautiful open floor plan great for everything from yoga to bridal showers.

In the front of the room is a live edge credenza designed, built and donated by Made By LLC using a slab of Suffield-grown poplar donated by Sotil Tree Service as well as repurposed wood from a local tobacco barn and pews from the chapel. (The live edge credenza was designed and built using the amazing tools and workspace at Makerspace CT in Hartford.) Behind the credenza is a 100 inch state-of-the-art projector and audio system for educational events, presentations and movies.

For the grand opening during Suffield on the Green, across the street, the Common Room served up free coffee house refreshments by the great folks from Story and Soil Coffee in Frog Hollow, Hartford.

Anyone in the community can reserve the space for a small ‘impact use” fee. Simply fill out a Building Use form, found on the church’s website: www.secondbaptistsuffield.org
