Poetry Contest

What a whirlwind of a summer! We had a fantastic response to our April Poetry Contest and held a reception in July to celebrate with the winners and their friends and family. Poems were judged by New England poets Michael Mercurio and Michelle Ramadan. Thanks to Christine DeAngelis from Suffield Public Schools for helping with this program.

Suffield High School

Winner: Elegy to a Trumpeter – Veronica Partain

Runner Up: The Riverbed – Lucie Casinghino

Honorable Mention: Mallory Loiseau for Rock Bottom and Ava Yunis for A Single Star In A Sea Of Darkness.

Suffield Middle School

College Apps

Thanks to Kelli Tosone and Ann Selvitelli, college counselors from Suffield Academy, for holding a well-attended workshop on the Common App and college essays. Teens are always welcome to use the library computers to work on their college preparations.

TinkerCrateClub

Suffield High School Senior Ryan Boudreau is back leading the TinkerCrateClub for Grades 5-8 on the second Tuesday of the month from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Please register online at suffield-library.org to join us in making STEM projects together.

Teen Library Council

The KML Teen Library Council needs your help to choose books, plan programs, develop lead initiatives and eat snacks. Peruse the shelves in the Young Adult section to find book recommendations from TLC members! Join us, grades 6- 12 are invited), in this library leadership role. Teens can use this opportunity as volunteer hours. Our next meetings are

Beanboozled!

On October 15, the TLC will host Beanboozled! from 3:30-5 p.m. Grades 5-12 are invited to attend this free event. Spin the jelly bean wheel to test your taste buds! Spoiled milk or coconut? Moldy cheese or caramel corn? Prizes for everyone who takes the challenge. Please register at suffield-library.org

Pop-up Library!

In other exciting news, the library is teaming up with Suffield schools for pop-up library opportunities at the middle and high school. Eighth graders received new library cards last month, and a primer on how to use their cards for digital services. And each month, KML will pop-up at the two schools with a stack of books students can check out, then return to our library at 50 North Main Street.

Teen Halloween!

Don’t Miss our “Teen Halloween” on October 29 hosted by Youth Services and the TLC! Teens will make Halloween treats and crafts in the gallery and watch a not-too scary movie in our renovated movie auditorium! The event runs from 2:30-7 p.m. at KML. Adult Volunteer Needed
