May 4 is quickly approaching. It will be 11 years since Cpl. Stephen R. Bixler gave his life for our country. At times it seems like it was yesterday and other times a lifetime ago. Then there are the times that it doesn’t feel like it happened at all and we are waiting for Steve to come home. The community of Suffield is coming together once again to remember Stephen at the annual picnic held to honor him. The Annual Corporal Stephen R. Bixler Memorial Picnic is on Sunday, May 28. It will be held at The Suffield Sportsman’s Club on Phelps Road.

Friends, family and many from the community gather to honor Corporal Bixler for the sacrifice he made for his country and for the freedoms we have today.

Every year since Stephen was killed while on patrol in Iraq, May 4, 2006, his closest friends have coordinated a picnic held on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend to raise money for The Corporal Stephen R. Bixler Memorial fund.

Many worthwhile projects and organizations have benefited from donations from his fund.

Tickets are $15 and include food, beverages, music, and door prizes.

It’s a day filled with many great memories honoring and remembering Steve!

Tickets are available at The First National Bank of Suffield (all offices), Suffield Hardware, Suffield Pizza, or by calling Annie 860-668-7592.
