As we all witnessed the horrible disaster that took place this past fall in Florida from Hurricane Irma, two students from McAlister Intermediate School, Fiona Everett and Katelyn Allard, decided they wanted to help the families that suffered a loss during this time.

They came up with the idea of raising money with their peers in fifth grade at McAlister. Fiona and Katelyn created posters asking for donations and hung them throughout the fifth grade. They placed a collection bank in each fifth grade classroom, and the donations started arriving immediately. Through the generosity and compassion of their fifth grade peers, they raised $425 that will be donated to the Red Cross for hurricane relief.

Way to go Fiona, Katelyn and all the fifth grade students who helped the people of Florida during this difficult time!
