UConn student Emily LaFlamme happily receives a certificate for the Thea Coburn Scholarship from Mary Mellor, Scholarship Chair for the Suffield Woman’s Club.

Emily LaFlamme is the recipient of the 2016 Suffield Woman’s Club Thea Coburn Scholarship. Emily, who shares Thea’s  love of nature, is a graduate of Suffield High School’s Agriscience program. A second year UConn student, she is pursuing a degree in Horticulture with a concentration in Sustainable Agriculture.

Thea’s interests were broad and varied. She was the Suffield correspondent for the Hartford Times, served on the Board of Education, the Suffield Conservation Commission, the Suffield Land Conservancy, the Kennebunk, Maine Land Trust and the Maine Audubon Society. She was a member of the Garden Club and the Hathaway House Committee.

Thea was a member of the Suffield Woman’s Club for 63 years. In her will, she gave funds to the Club to be used for scholarships for those pursuing majors in conservation and/or the environment.
