Copper Hill Church LogoIn honor of its 200th anniversary, Copper Hill United Methodist Church will culminate months of celebration with special October events.

On October 16, “Friend Sunday,” the church will welcome two distinguished guests in their 9:30 a.m. worship service. District Superintendent Rev. Kenneth Keiffer will bring congratulations from the United Methodist Connecticut District, and Representative Tami Zawistowski of the Connecticut General Assembly will present official recognition from our government for the occasion.

Historic pictures and memorabilia will be on display for browsing. Several members plan to wear old-fashioned costumes. After the service, all in attendance are invited to enjoy a potluck dinner, complete with the good home cooking for which Copper Hill Church is known.

A special treat is planned for the October 23 service, when “John Wesley,” the Founder of Methodism, will visit. He’ll be portrayed by Rev. James Moore, a retired district superintendent from the Catskill/Hudson District, dressed in 18th century clothing. Afterwards, the church will also bury a Time Capsule, with meaningful mementos representing our times.

During the month of October, Pastor Kelvin Jones will be guiding the church in another series of worship services based on the 200th Anniversary theme. The first series, in April, was titled “Foundations for 200 Years and Counting.” October’s series, “Vision for the Next Generation,” will again include special history moments and testimonials from members concerning their own faith and why they love the church.

Copper Hill Church extends a warm welcome to friends in the surrounding communities. Pastor Kelvin Jones commented, “The church has been a vital and contributing part of the fabric of the Copper Hill community for 200 years. With the support of the community, it will continue to be vital and will serve the community into future generations.”
