The Third Baptist Church will be hosting a Martin Luther King Holiday Observance in Suffield on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 4 pm. Third Baptist Church is located at 188 Kent Ave., Suffield. 2017 will be the 25th consecutive year that the Greater Suffield Interfaith Council has supported this community event to observe the birthday of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year marks the 88th birthday of Dr. King and the 32nd national holiday in his honor. It is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world.
The day marks the importance of remembering Dr. King’s work and legacy, celebrating his birthday as a national holiday, and acting on his teachings and principles of nonviolence and human rights. It is also a day on which community service initiatives are encouraged to take place across the country.
The event will feature the Third Baptist Church Chorus and Suffield’s special interracial, interfaith, intergenerational choir. The King Holiday Observance brings together diverse segments of Suffield’s population and religious communities, as well as the surrounding Connecticut and Massachusetts towns.
The preacher for this service will be The Reverend Nathaniel Smith, pastor of Third Baptist Church, Springfield, Mass. Everyone in Suffield and the surrounding towns is invited.
