Following the success of last June’s Relay For Life of North Central CT, plans are underway for the 2017 event. Scheduled for the weekend of June 3-4 at the Suffield Middle School, Relay For Life is a celebration of cancer survivorship and a fun way to raise the vital funds needed for the American Cancer Society’s programs of cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. While technically not a relay, it is so named because teams are encouraged to maintain walkers on the track throughout the 24-hour period. This signifies their dedication to fight against cancer through the darkness until the light of success can be seen. This “celebration of life” brings the communities of East Granby, Enfield, Granby, North Granby, Simsbury, Somers, Suffield, and Windsor Locks together in a unified effort.
Please come join our fight. Teams and individuals can register at www.relayforlife.org/northcentralCT. The first Team Captains’ meeting will be held on January 12 at 7 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center. We are actively seeking volunteers for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to help plan the event. The next ELT meeting is December 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center. For information on creating a team, registering, or the ELT, please contact Mariah Nolan at mariah.nolan@cancer.org.
