The auditorium at A. Ward Spaulding School sparkled in blue as students proudly wore their Spaulding Star T-shirts for an assembly focusing on the character trait of responsibility.

The Spaulding Star program, aligned to both the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Responsive Classroom frameworks, focuses on the teaching, modeling, and celebration of the specific character traits of respect, responsibility, and kindness. The assembly began with the Pledge of Allegiance, then moved on to a slideshow depicting Spaulding Stars acting responsibly in areas of school such as walking from the bus, listening to the speaker, returning materials, and washing hands. After a review of the number of star certificates currently earned by our Spaulding Stars, the audience enjoyed the song and video Responsibility RAP. Additionally, responsibility certificates were awarded to two students in each grade. The assembly concluded with Wyn Jespersen, the school’s music teacher, leading the students in the catchy song she composed, entitled “Be Responsible.”

This program dovetails with the school’s improvement plan of enhancing social-emotional wellness and character education programming. Spaulding Stars shine with responsibility!
