The Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) recently held its’ eighteenth annual Celebration of the Arts Festival. This state organization honors two outstanding students in the highest grade in their elementary school who demonstrate leadership, cooperation, and achievement skills in either the visual or performing arts. Jackson Davis and Sunny Sullivan, students in second grade at A. Ward Spaulding School, were honored with over 130 other elementary school students from around Connecticut.

Sunny Sullivan was selected and presented by her music teacher, Wyn Jespersen, who commented,” I’m thrilled to honor Sunny with this award. Sunny is an excellent singer and a model for her peers in music class. I’m sure music will be part of her life for many years to come.” Jackson Davis , chosen and presented by his art teacher Patty Piellucci, is also a deserving awardee. According to Mrs. Piellucci. “Jackson is a curious and thoughtful art student. His enthusiasm for art, uncanny ability to make connections and subtle leadership style are all prime examples of what make a quality student. There is no doubt he will keep art in his heart for life.”

The CAS awardees’ classroom teachers, Kelly Colangelo, Cassie D’Amato, Wyn Jespersen, and Patty Piellucci, were in attendance that evening with the students’ families. The students were treated to a buffet dinner with make your own sundaes, a lively a cappella performance by the Whiffenpoofs of Yale University, face painting, arts and crafts, and balloon sculpting. Complimentary caricatures capped off a fun evening that honored two most-deserving Spaulding students!
