The Suffield Woman’s Club (SWC) is pleased to offer the Thea Coburn Scholarship to any college or university student from Suffield, Granby, East Granby, Windsor Locks and Enfield or a graduate of the Agri-Science Center in Suffield, who has completed at least one year of higher education and intends to pursue a career in the environmental or communications areas. If you have received this scholarship previously you may apply again.

Thea Coburn was involved in local government and co-founded a local chapter of the League of Women Voters. She became a correspondent for the Hartford Times and wrote a daily column for 19 years. She was the first correspondent to cover the Board of Education meetings. She was invited to serve on the BOE and did so for 10 years. She served on the Suffield Land Commission for 20 years and was a founding member of the Suffield Land Conservancy serving on its Board for many years. In 2002, she was presented the Department of Environmental Protection’s GreenCircle Award for promoting conservation and preservation of critical plant or animal habitats.

She was a member of the SWC for 63 years.
