The 32nd annual A. Ward Spaulding School Art Festival opened to the public on Thursday, April 6. This school-wide Art Festival ambitiously displayed at least two works of art per student, with three for all first and second grade students.

Students attended the Art Festival on Wednesday, April 5, with their classmates and teachers, sharing their successes in art. The second grade Modeled Boxes and ‘Starry Night’ paintings, first grade Tree Houses, and kindergarten hand-drawn and painted ‘Mona Lisas’ were the top picks by the students. Many of this year’s projects were lessons facilitated for the first time in the art curriculum. Families and friends arrived on that Thursday evening eager to enjoy viewing and learning about their creations.

The evening was framed with a slide show of students working and creating together in art class throughout the year. As Picasso commented, ‘Every child is an artist.’  I believe my students prove that to me and, more importantly, to themselves during every art class!

Our students bravely take this exciting and explorative journey into the world of art in Room 25. You would think that after 18 years of creating with them that I have seen it all. Not a chance! They continually surprise and amaze me. This year was about taking bigger chances and greater leaps of faith in them. The result is what made our Art Festival so visually striking and exciting. Well done to all my AWS artists!
