Greetings from Suffield: Old Postcards Shown

Print More

Wednesday night, June 14, at the Senior Center found an eager group of Suffield residents awaiting a slide show of Suffield postcards presented by Town Historian Lester Smith. The presentation had been helped along with selection help by Anne Borg, scanning by Art Sikes, and digital projector set-up by Bill Sullivan.

From his large collection, Lester and Anne chose cards to digitize from throughout the twentieth century, and he organized about 60 for the show. He started off with pictures of the Green and early stores and the Town Hall on Main Street, took us by current and long-lost church buildings, then showed some of Suffield’s spectacular houses.

Lester’s Greetings from Suffield tour then branched further afield and showed Hilltop Farm, old tobacco farming scenes, bridges and canal scenes, and he concluded with bathing beaches on Lake Congamond. There were many much-appreciated audience contributions about their memories of the scenes pictured.

Come to the King House Museum on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to see what you missed – and more.
