The Phelps-Hatheway House will celebrate the Suffield on the Green celebrations with a slate full of fun and fascinating events.

Join us on Friday evening, September 8, from 6–7:30 p.m. for a potluck dinner honoring the bounty of our area farms. Please bring a place setting and a dish featuring local ingredients. Dessert and drinks will be provided. Our shared feast will be accompanied by the celebrated musician Shannon Frechette.

After dinner, join our costumed guides on a twilight tour of the historic property. Lanterns will lead us through the dimly lit corners of the house & transport you to a time before electricity illuminated our homes.

The Phelps-Hatheway House would like to thank the Friends of Suffield for their generous funding of this popular event.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, our 1867 barn will come alive with color during our fourth annual Textile Trunk Show, this year featuring New London-based textile artist Allegra Brelsford.

For this show, Allegra will offer a retrospective exhibit of selected works. Allegra will offer early experimentation with color and form, and cover major and minor works from her significant “Rising” and “Motif” series. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to see selected sketches, plans, statements and inspirations for some of her work as a way to experience the process of a working artist in an unusual medium.

Our festive weekend will conclude with a special tour on Sunday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m. This inaugural offering will be devoted to the historic textiles housed in our permanent collection. From the bed coverings to garments, we will witness the rich use of color and texture that marked 18th and 19th century pieces. Regular admission fees apply; free to all members of CT Landmarks.
