The Suffield High School Boys Soccer team finished as the Class M runner-ups after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Lewis Mills in the state finals.

Suffield entered the tournament as the 5th seed and started out with an impressive 3-0 victory over Abbott Tech. Mike McFarlane scored all three goals and goalie Henry Cutler made eight saves.

The Wildcats then eliminated Bacon Academy 3-1 as Jeremy Walch scored late in the 2nd half to tie the game and McFarlane scored twice in overtime. In the semi-finals Suffield crushed previously unbeaten #1 seed Granby 4-1 behind 2 goals from Dylan Carzello and 2 more from McFarlane.

In the final, Suffield had a 2 – 1 lead after McFarlane scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Carzello scored early in the second. However, Lewis Mills, the undefeated #2 seed, fought back to tie and then scored the winning goal with only 10 seconds left after a wild scramble in front of the net.

Despite the disappointing finish, it was an excellent season for the Wildcats, highlighted by McFarlane’s stellar play as he set a new SHS single season boys record with 35 goals.
