The Suffield Woman’s Club (SWC) is having a bang-up year!

At one recent meeting the SWC hosted Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) past Commander Jim Hunter to talk about what the organization does. Their mission is to help ANY veteran in any way they can. Club members were surprised to learn about the many programs the VFW supports and participates in. Club members presented over $200 in gift cards to Commander Hunter for the Veterans.

In another meeting, the members had the opportunity to show their appreciation for each other. Each member had a foam core square hanging on their backs from a ribbon, and others wrote on these boards the things about that lady that they appreciated. It was fun and humbling to see just how much these mini tributes meant.

The SWC were then guests of the Woman’s Club of Enfield. A light luncheon was served, the meeting was held and then their speaker was introduced. Michelle Mattia, RDN from ShopRite talked about healthy meal choices. The two clubs have hosted each other in January for years and enjoy their charitable sisterhood and friendships within the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut (GFWC/CT).

Members of the SWC and the public are invited to the Woman’s Club of Enfield meeting as they invite special guest GFWC/CT President Helen Barakauskas. President Barakauskas is Connecticut’s representative to the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial project. Her presentation, “What Would You Do For The Right To Vote?” will give some history about the American suffragists and how you can help support the memorial. The meeting is Wednesday, February 7, at the Enfield Congregational Church on Enfield/South Streets at 11:30. Please RSVP to SWC President at number below.

Tuesday, February 7, brings Poet/Author Ellen Rita Evans to Father Ted Hall as a guest of the SWC. Ms. Evans, a local author, has been featured on TV and radio. She will read from her books and have autographed copies available for purchase. To attend please contact SWC President Lisa Pepe at 860-965-9305. A light luncheon will be served at noon; Ms. Evans is scheduled at 1:30 p.m.
