The Suffield Woman’s Club (SWC) is pleased to offer the Thea Coburn Scholarship to any college or university student from Suffield, Granby, East Granby, Windsor Locks and Enfield or a graduate of the Agri-Science Center in Suffield, who has completed at least one year of higher education and intends to pursue a career in the environmental or communications areas. If you have received this scholarship previously, you may apply again. Thea Coburn was a member of the SWC for 63 years. For more details and an application, contact Scholarship Chairman Mary Mellor at 860-254-5078 or mellor88@cox.net.

For many years, the SWC has also given scholarships to three graduating seniors. These are the Elizabeth Biggerstaff Scholarship for the student having the highest grade in English, the Ruth Morse Language Scholarship and the Anna Tobin Scholarship for a student planning to enter the teaching profession.

It also has been a long- standing tradition in the club to award the students who may not have the desire to attend a college or university but have excelled in their classes nonetheless. The SWC gives an award to one student per subject for each of the eleven school subjects. In the recent past, these awards have been $50 each totaling $550.

The Suffield Woman’s Club would like to thank the Suffield High School Guidance Department and teachers for their partnership in handling these scholarships and awards over the years.

The SWC is honored to host Suffield resident Anne Stagg at the April 10 meeting. Ms. Stagg is a docent at the Holocaust Exhibit at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She will share her insight and knowledge of the exhibit with members and guests. For more information about the SWC, please contact Membership Chairman Jean Neagle at 860-668-1876.

The SWC is a proud member of the GFWC/CT. To learn more visit www.gfwcct.org.
