It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the holiday season. So many great things are happening at Suffield Public Schools! The following is just a sample of all that is occurring in our district.

At Suffield High School all of our fall sports teams made it to States! The SHS drama club put on their fall presentation: A Midsummer Night’s Dream on November 1, 2, and 3. The performances were phenomenal and involved over 50 SHS students. Congratulations to all! On November 13, 33 students were inducted into the National Honor Society.

Suffield Middle School held its first Wingman Takeover day on November 2. The theme was “Believing in Yourself”. A parent forum was held on November 14 to receive parent feedback on possible schedule changes at Suffield Middle School.

McAlister Intermediate School students participated in the Final Mile where fourth and fifth graders came out every morning before school in order to try and run a total of either a half marathon or a full marathon before the end of October. If they were successful, they were able to run the “final mile” of their half or full marathon in Rentschler Field with students from across the state. Suffield had over 120 students participate, who collectively ran/walked 2689 miles in the Final Mile and they were thrilled!

In honor of our veterans, Spaulding hosted its annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 9. Invitations were sent to all families inviting veterans to join. A light breakfast hosted by our PTO followed the assembly. McAlister hosted more than 50 veterans at its Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 12. The veterans also visited classrooms and attended a reception with their students. SHS hosted a brunch for veterans on November 12 in the Library Media Center. The veterans also visited social studies classrooms that day. We are extremely grateful for our veterans, and our school community found wonderful ways to give them the honor they deserve.

In an effort to increase the home-school connection, Suffield School District’s curriculum website is now open for public viewing. We believe that this new feature will help everyone in the Suffield community to know and better understand what is being taught in our schools. Please visit our curriculum site at https://suffield-public.rubiconatlas.org/Atlas/Public/View/Default

Two high school students will now be joining the Board at each meeting. Suffield High School senior Hannah Stack and junior Sarah Dubocq attended their first Board of Education meeting on November 5 and participated in the dialog with Board members and administrators being discussed that evening. It is exciting to have a student perspective on the Board.

Upcoming events in our district include the SHS winter concert on December 5, the SMS winter chorus concert on December 13, the SMS winter band concert on December 18, and McAlister’s winter concert on December 19. Please visit our District’s Calendar for more events happening at all of our schools. https://www.suffield.org/page.cfm?p=502

I want to wish all a wonderful and joyous holiday season!
