The members of Calliope Brass, coming to Music on High on February 10, are pictured here with their instruments and one of their Sesame Street friends.

The Music on High community music program is excited to present Calliope Brass and their special children’s program, What’s Your Story? (WYS), on Sunday, February 10, 2 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Suffield. WYS is a fun and frolicking music program for children of all ages!

WYS is an interactive performance narrated by Calliope, a dragon-fairy puppet who excitedly leads audience members through an exploration of the power of storytelling through music. Calliope is an original character created for and by Calliope Brass with the help of Sesame Street puppeteers Leslie Carrara-Rudolph (“Abby Cadabby”) and Haley Jenkins (“Zari”). Calliope explains how musical themes can enhance a story by illustrating the characters, the setting, a moment in the plot or a character’s emotions. Audience members will interact with Calliope to develop an adventure story and then see the story brought to life through music.

The Calliope Brass musicians will wrap up the performance with a selection of popular jazz pieces.

Calliope Brass is an extraordinarily talented quintet of brass players from New York City. Members are versatile musicians found playing in Broadway pits, major symphony orchestras, the Amazon television series Mozart in the Jungle, mainstage acts including Adele, Pink Martini, and Andrea Bocelli and sharing their artistry in schools nation-wide.

The audience is invited to join Calliope Brass at a reception following the performance. This will be a fun outing for children and families!
