Kick-off the 2019 Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 29 at our Grand Opening! Woohoo!

Children ages 3 – 5 and kids in grades K – 4 are invited to read alone or together. Each week you participate you earn a raffle ticket for one of the grand prizes (Sonny’s gift card, a tent, Legos and more) to be awarded at the end of the five-week program. And the wheel is back! Each week, spin the wheel for more fun giveaways. The 2019 Summer Reading Program begins on Saturday, June 29 and will end on Saturday, August 3. The program is funded by the Friends of Kent Memorial Library.

Families: Stop in for one of our Grand Opening Events

Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. Meet live animals. Get up-close and personal; learn about their habitats, behaviors and diets. 

Balloon Art with Catalina Lapointe

Saturday, June 29 from 10:30–Noon. Have Catalina make you a special balloon creation to take home! 

Registration Required for  the following programs:

Pottery Wheel Demonstration and Hands-On Workshop 

Wednesday, July 10 at 1:30 p.m. Ages 5 and up. Rick Hamelin, of Pied Potter Hamelin, will demonstrate the skill of pottery making on a potter’s wheel. 

After the demonstration, Rick will pass out clay to all participants interested in making their own hand-built pottery creation. And yes, you can take your creation home to enjoy with others!

Virtual Reality Program

Thursday, July 11 from 6 p.m.–8 p.m. Ages 8 and up. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to land on the moon? Take part in virtual reality technology and get a glimpse at what Neil Armstrong experienced on the Apollo 11! Fly solo or with friends. This is one experience you won’t want to miss.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. Ages 3 – 5. Bring your favorite stuffed friend to the library and hear a story, make a craft and have snacks!

Magic Show

Saturday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m. Family Program. What’s up Matt’s sleeve? Be surprised and entertained during this 45-minute performance filled with audience participation, laughter and some creative magic!

Imagarena

Monday, July 22 at 11 a.m. Grades 1 – 5. A hands-on, fast paced STEM program that combines creativity, building and the framework of a video game! Check it out! 

Mosaic Crafts for Preschoolers

Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 3 – 5. Do you like using a glue stick? How about stickers? Come into the library and decorate your very own crown and butterfly. 

The Art of Mosaics

Tuesday, July 30 at 1 p.m.

Ages 6–9.

Decorate a wooden frame and trinket box using jewels and tiles. 

Summer Reading at Kent Memorial Library

If you’re in grades 5–12 and would like a chance to win some great giveaways, here’s what you need to do: You can read a book or a magazine—you can read just about anything! Come to the library from June 29 to August 3 and fill out a raffle ticket. Earn two free raffle tickets each week: one for a weekly prize (a $10 gift card to Dunkin Donuts, Spare Time, Subway, Five Below and more). The second raffle ticket is for one of the grand prizes ($75 gift card to Sonny’s Place, Target, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon).
