The Hatheway gardens include this formal parterre garden designed by noted landscape architect Mary Wells Edwards.

Although September brings cooler temperatures and shorter days, the Hatheway garden remains equally vibrant and lovely as the summer wanes. Please join us for two unique events in the garden! On Thursday evening, September 5, Julie Harrison “The Garden Fairy”will return for a final floral workshop. Julie will use blooms (dahlias!!) taken from her Suffield flower farm and from the Hatheway garden. She will instruct guests on proper technique and offer tips for lasting displays. Garden inspired refreshments will follow. Reservations are required at (860) 668-0055 or at phelps.hatheway@ctlandmarks.org. For more information, please contact the House as above or at ctlandmarks.org.

Have you ever wanted to garden at an historic site? The Suffield Garden Club will hold an Open Garden Day in the Hatheway Garden on Saturday, September 28 from 10 -11 a.m. Guests are invited to work alongside Garden Club members as they prepare the perennial bed for the winter. All ages are welcome with no experience required, although garden clippers are recommended. Refreshments will follow. For more information, please call Lynn Mervosh at the Hatheway House, 860-668-0055.
