You can now donate to the SCA’s annual appeal through our Facebook page!

Within the next two weeks, you will receive Suffield Community Aid’s (SCA) annual appeal letter. PLEASE support our campaign at any funding level you can. SCA provides supportive health and social services that positively affect the well-being of residents during times of need. Your donation will make a difference right here in your own community. People Food & Pet Food Drive

Help us with our People Food & Pet Food Drive at the polls to benefit the SCA Food Pantry:

SCA volunteers will hold a benefit food and pet food drive at the election polls (Suffield Middle School) on Tuesday, November 5 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. We are especially in need of mayonnaise, tuna fish in water, canned meat, canned pasta, brownie and cake mixes, cleaning supplies and personal care items. Cash and grocery store gift cards are also welcome donations at this time of year.

The Memory Café

You’re invited to The Memory Café – For those with early to moderate cognitive loss, their friends and family. Come for fun, company and conversation. The Café will be open every 2nd Wednesday and the last Tuesday of each month at The Suffield Senior Center. Please RSVP to Pat Beeman, Master Social Worker, for participant eligibility and or more information call 860-668-1986.

Holiday Basket Program

Are you in need of a little holiday cheer? Apply for the SCA’s Holiday Basket Program. The SCA is coordinating the Thanksgiving and Holiday Basket Program for Suffield residents. Residents wishing to receive help for the holidays are encouraged to call Janet at the SCA to see if they qualify, at 860-668-1986.

Stay warm this winter! – We are taking applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program: These government programs are designed to help offset the winter heating costs for financially eligible household so that their health is not jeopardized by the inability to afford critical heat. Please contact SCA to schedule an appointment at 860-668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at www.ct.gov/staywarm

Ongoing Program and Updates

Airways Golf fills our shelves! Airways, and the generosity of their customers, have come through for SCA’s Food Pantry again this year. Each year, Airways hosts this customer appreciation event. We are humbled by the impact of this food drive and Airways’ dedication to our residents.

Meals-on-Wheels

Are Meals-on-Wheels an option for you?

Qualified homebound seniors, age 60 and over, living in Suffield can receive healthy lunches and dinners delivered to their door. Meals are balanced, nutritious and diet specific. A $2.50 donation per meal is suggested by the Community Renewal Team to help cover costs. Contact SCA!

Medicare is Confusing!  

Do you want to now more about your Medicare? CHOICES is the Connecticut program that provides counseling and information  for seniors on such topics as Medicare, Medicaid & Medicare Supplement Insurance. The SCA is scheduling appointments with certified CHOICES counselors. Call for an appointment 860-668-1986.

Parkinson’s Peer Support Group

The group meets monthly at the Suffield Senior Center. It’s goal is to share ideas and resources in the management and treatment of Parkinson’s disorder. Lunch meetings are held the second Monday of each month from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.. Topics and speakers vary monthly. Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Dementia Caregiver Support Group

The group meets the last Tuesday of each month at the Suffield Senior Center at 11 a.m. The next meeting is November 26. You do not need to be a resident of Suffield to attend. The group is led by a trained Alzheimer’s Association facilitator, Nicole Matson of Home Helpers of Central CT. Call SCA at 860-668-1986 for more info.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Suffield Community Aid sponsors free blood pressure clinics for residents of all ages at the Suffield Senior Center on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m.to noon. No appointments needed!
