The Suffield Rotary Club’s impressive float in the town’s 1970 tercentenary parade pulled a beehive trailer labeled “BUSY BEES SUPPORT YOUTH” and included Boy Scouts and Little Leaguers on the main float.

The big parade celebrating Suffield’s 350th Birthday is less than eight months away! Entry forms for the October 10 parade are available on both the 350th Anniversary’s website and Facebook page.

The first group to sign up for the parade was the Sibbil Dwight Kent Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They will be driving a convertible in the parade this year. The second group we heard from was the Marquis of Granby Jr. Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. They are looking forward to marching and performing for us!

Kids on decorated trikes and bikes will lead the parade, followed by floats, bands, marching groups, horses, emergency vehicles, and classic vehicles of all kinds. We are anticipating some friendly rivalries among community groups and various town departments, with prizes for the most outstanding parade entries.

Take a look at some of the creative floats in Suffield’s 300th anniversary parade back in 1970. You can view slide show on the website at TheSuffieldObserver.com/Parade300.
