Since we closed our physical building in response to COVID-19, staff at the Kent Memorial Library has grappled with working remotely from home, attending webinars and Zoom meetings, expanding networks and becoming part of a broader conversation of what libraries can do during a global pandemic.
We’ve run a successful Virtual Cooking series through Zoom by leveraging the amazing talents of our staff. We’ve received heartfelt letters and drawings from members of our community through our book drop, which we have posted in our windows to inspire hope as folks walk by. We’ve partnered with local businesses to promote a Scavenger Hunt for all ages. And we have more in store…
In last month’s article, I mentioned how important access to the library is for patrons across our community, and I’m happy to report that we are cracking our doors open just a bit to provide access to library materials to residents of Suffield for the first time in two months.
The Kent Memorial Library is proud to announce that we will be beginning our Curbside Pick-Up service on May 18, 2020! At the writing of this article, operating hours will be Mondays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesdays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Fridays 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Patrons will be able to request items available through our library. (Interlibrary loan deliveries are still unavailable at this time.) In an effort to meet the needs of our community while adhering to safety guidelines, we may adjust the availability of our service, so please check in with us for up-to-date information.
Staff is hard at work continuing to develop our Summer Reading Program on a virtual platform in the event our physical building is still closed. There’s much more happening “behind the screens” but there’s still plenty to do before we can share with all of you. So in the meantime, please consider supporting the Kent Memorial Library by placing a hold on items in our collection.
