Their Shift Was Over

Three lifeguards trek back from the White’s Pond beach at the end of their 10-to-4 shift. From the left: Anna Casinghino, Roger Levin, and Karissa Stanio. They had been covering the beach and other popular areas at Sunrise Park, but there was not enough manpower that hot July 19 to control the entrance. This photographer counted 24 cars, half of them out-of-state.
