Suffield Community Aid is opening, by appointment, on May 3! After more than a year of working inside our locked doors, we are reopening to allow in-office visits. Residents who are better served through in-person visits will need to call to set up an appointment time and adhere to all safety protocols, including social distancing and wearing a mask. Not all services will be offered in this manner initially. For more information, call: 860-668-1986.

James F. Coggins, Jr. Community Service Award— open to applicants

Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay supporting their selection to SCA at 450 South Street, or email janetf@suffield communityaid.org. The deadline to apply is midnight on Monday, May 10.

Is clutter making your life stressful?

SCA is offering a free, 16-week virtual self help and support group for folks who have too much stuff and want to declutter their lives. The 1.5-hour weekly workshop sessions will begin the first week of June. The book Buried in Treasures will serve as the guide for facilitators and participants. Activities include exercises from the book dealing with acquisition, discarding and disorganization as well as homework between sessions. Registration is required and space is limited. To find out more about this workshop, contact Patricia Beeman, MSW, at 860-668-1986: patb@suffieldcommunityaid.org

Rental Rebate Program for Elderly & Disabled Residents

The State provides a reimbursement program for renters who are elderly or disabled, and whose incomes do not exceed certain limits. Renter’s rebates can be up to $900 for married couples and $700 for single persons. The renter’s rebate amount is based on a graduated income scale and the amount of rent and utility payments (excluding telephone) made in the calendar year prior to the year in which the renter applies. SCA is taking applications. Call 860-668-1986 to find out more.
