The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund was created by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2019 as part of a larger initiative for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region. Each fund appointed an advisory committee to make decisions about grant funding to nonprofits that serve and benefit local residents. The Suffield Community Fund was granted $100,000 from the Hartford Foundation to support the needs of Suffield residents. Half of the funds were available for grant awards, while the other half of the funds were endowed.

The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund is administered by an advisory committee of Suffield residents. To learn more about the program, make a tax-deductible contribution, and view a listing of the current advisory committee members, please visit the website at hfpg.org/suffieldcf or e-mail us at suffieldgtcf@gmail.com.

The Suffield Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the Fund’s inaugural grants to the following organizations:

Suffield Garden Club has received $5,000 to assist the Town Tree Committee in its efforts to improve and maintain the character of Suffield and its historic Main Street and Greens by developing a 10-year tree planting plan that considers existing trees, historic surroundings, and community use.

Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden in partnership with Suffield Academy and the Suffield Historical Society has received $4,750 to explore, understand, and share Suffield’s residents’ role in the displacement of Native American peoples from Connecticut and New York State during and after the Revolutionary War culminating with a lecture and discussion slated for April 2022.

Operation Fuel has received $3,000 to support emergency energy distribution in Suffield.

Crossroads Food Pantry has received $405 to purchase commercial grade utility carts to transport pantry items from their storage room for distribution to local families.

The Suffield Advisory Committee would like to thank all the organizations that submitted grant applications. We expect our next round of applications to be available in early 2022 and encourage all nonprofits that benefit Suffield residents to apply.

We encourage any Suffield resident interested in serving on the Suffield Advisory Committee to inquire by e-mailing us at suffieldgtcf@gmail.com.
