First Selectman’s Update

As the cold days of winter are winding down and spring quickly approaches, I welcome the warm, longer days a new season has to offer and the new things Suffield has prepared for our warmer days ahead.

At our February 16 Board of Selectmen meeting, the board approved a town carnival which we expect to host in late June.  We are forming a steering committee and looking for volunteers to help organize this event.  Please feel free to call into town hall if you are interested.

We are scheduled to break ground on the Mountain Road multi-use trail at the beginning of April.  The trail will provide a welcoming addition to the town for residents to enjoy.

The Selectmen’s preliminary budget will be in and referred to the Board of Finance by the beginning of March.  My goal is to keep taxes low with the exorbitant costs of living that have occurred over the past couple month and will likely continue increasing over the year.

Planning and Zoning has approved a text amendment to the Zoning Regulations for “Cannabis Establishments” in regards to uses and establishment for potential investors.

Be on the lookout for public information meetings that include the Facilities Master Plan and Traffic Safety Study.

Be sure to check out the Parks and Recreation website for the great events/camps for your children they are holding for spring and summer.  Available slots are filling up fast!

Our Tree Committee looks to be finalizing and wrapping up their 10-year phased tree planting plan.  Keep an eye out for that and donations will be welcomed in the near future as we look to fund the plan.

Winter was short and spring appears to be coming early.  Enjoy the weather everybody!
