The Suffield Board of Education is pleased to announce the official appointment of Mr. Matthew Dobi as Assistant Principal of Suffield High School. The Board of Education’s decision to appoint Mr. Dobi follows his successful assignment for the past five months as Interim Assistant Principal at Suffield High School.
Mr. Dobi was hired by the Suffield Public Schools as a seventh grade Social Studies teacher in 2012 following his initial year in teaching at Sage Park Middle School in Windsor, Connecticut. Throughout his ten-year tenure in Suffield, he has been recognized for the many contributions he has made as a teacher, coach and instructional leader. Mr. Dobi has facilitated various professional development workshops on the integration of Social Studies and technology. In addition, he played an integral role in revising and aligning the district’s K-12 Social Studies program with the College, Career, and Civic Life Framework. Mr. Dobi has served on the Professional Development and Evaluation Committee, various administrative and teacher hiring committees and the Suffield Public Schools Teacher of the Year Committee. In addition to being nominated as Team Leader since 2015, he was named the district’s 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year. A multi-sport coach and club supervisor for many years, Mr. Dobi has been a familiar face to Suffield High School since his interim appointment as the Assistant Principal of Suffield High School in October.
For the past five months as Interim Assistant Principal, Mr. Dobi has been responsible for the overall supervision of the Social Studies, Science, Business, Music, Art and Physical Education departments. In addition, he has provided leadership to the student attendance and intervention team and oversees Section 504 plans to all qualified Suffield High School students. Lastly, he is currently serving as the high school representative on the Town of Suffield’s Juvenile Review Board diversionary program.
In terms of his educational background, Assistant Principal Dobi completed his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (History/Social Studies) from Central Connecticut State University. He went on to receive his Master of Arts in Educational Technology from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Dobi is a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Administrator Preparation Program (UCAPP), where he fulfilled an administrator internship placement at Squadron Line Elementary School in Simsbury, Connecticut. He currently holds Connecticut State Department of Education educator endorsements in Social Studies (026) and Intermediate Administration and Supervision (092).
