Please join us on Saturday, July 9 for our Second Saturdays program from 1-3 p.m. in the museum.

The Declaration of Independence was read publicly for the very first time in Suffield on July 8, 1776. Visitors will read this important document together and wonder how the Burbank family may have thought of the new nation. Inside the museum, hear about the first newspapers and how residents were informed of important events. Budding journalists will create their own front page to share with others. Which stories will you include?

This event will take place at the Phelps-Hatheway House. Parking is available on site. If you have any questions, please email phelps.hatheway@ctlandmarks.org or call 860-668-0055.

Online registration is available via this link:

Do you know a budding historian? The Summer History Lab might be the perfect place for them to begin a lifelong love of historic preservation.

Exciting discoveries await those who venture into secret spaces! Phelps-Hatheway’s beloved summer program returns for 2022 with new activities and crafts in store. Explore the house and grounds of the museum and use clues from the past to better understand the 18th and 19th-century history and culture. Each day will focus on a special theme: Cultivate and Gather; Dig and Record; Stitch; and Connect and Celebrate. Following the day’s activities, participants will talk about the importance of history and preservation in our lives and communities.

This program will take place at the Phelps-Hatheway House. Participants should bring a snack and water bottle each day. Recommended for children ages 8-12. Registration required; space is limited.

If you have any questions, please email
phelps.hatheway@ctlandmarks.org or call 860-668-0055.
A confirmation email with additional information will be sent to the email address used to purchase the tickets.

Phelps-Hatheway’s Second Saturdays series continues in August with a special summer-themed program.

Explore the places in the museum where the Burbank, Phelps, and Hatheway families kept cool (or at least tried to!) and learn about personal hygiene in the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors will entertain themselves with simple games and make a handmade fan to refresh weary bodies.

This program will take place at the Phelps-Hatheway House. Parking is available onsite. If you have any questions, please email
phelps.hatheway@ctlandmarks.org or call 860-668-0055.
