The Suffield Arts Council has slated yet another fine art display in their monthly featured series of shows, found in the Pinney Gallery, at the Kent Memorial Library.

September will feature the work of Southwick artist Ray Shugart. A well respected local artist and member of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association, his work has been featured in area shows including Friends of the Agawam Library, Friends of the Chicopee Library and the Southwick Cultural Council.

His casual style and contemporary subjects are popular and prized by collectors. He retired from a career as a designer and illustrator for Hamilton Standard and other local manufacturers.

After “retirement,” he opened and operated Shugart’s Martial Arts in Agawam, which continued until it was closed, due to COVID 19, after 20 years.

Ray now runs “RSVP”, which stands for Ray Shugart’s Visual Presentation. He creates realistic portraits of pets for clients all around the country and may be reached at: raymondshugart941@gmail.com.

The show opens September 1 with a collection of 50 images, rendered in pencil or colored pencil.

A “Meet the Artist” reception is scheduled for Thursday evening, September 8, from 6-8 p.m. Masks must be worn and no refreshments will be offered, due to COVID 19 restrictions.
