You Can Donate to SCA’s Annual Appeal electronically! Within the next few weeks, you will receive SCA’s annual appeal letter in the mail. Please support our campaign at any funding level you can by donating by mail, on our website or through our Facebook page. SCA provides supportive health and social services that positively affect the well-being of residents during times of need. We can’t accomplish our goals without you! People & Pet Food Drive at the Polls to benefit the SCA Food Pantry:  SCA volunteers will hold a benefit drive at the election polls (Suffield Middle School) on Tuesday, November 8 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. We are especially in need of paper goods, canned pasta, spaghetti sauce, snacks, soups, condiments, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. Cash and grocery gift cards are also welcome donations at this time of year.

Are You in Need of a Little Holiday Cheer? Apply for SCA’s Holiday Basket Program: SCA is coordinating the Thanksgiving and Holiday Basket Program for financially qualified Suffield residents. Residents wishing to receive help for the holidays are encouraged to call SCA.

Stay Warm This Winter! We are taking applications for Connecticut’s Energy Assistance Program: These government programs help offset the winter heating costs for financially eligible households. Please contact SCA to apply at 860-668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at

Parkinson’s Peer Support Group at the Suffield Senior Center: The next meeting is scheduled for November 8 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at 145 Bridge Street and will include a pizza lunch. Call Pat at SCA: 860-668-1986 to register your attendance.

SCA Seeks Residents for Priority Emergency Response List: We are updating our list of residents who would benefit from a check-up call during a town or state-wide emergency. Residents who use oxygen or need electricity for medical equipment, are strongly encouraged to call. All information gathered is for confidential use in the event of an emergency as declared by the First Selectman. Please contact SCA at 860-668-1986.

Some Ongoing Programs and Updates:

Memory Café Support Group: Join Pat Beeman, MSW for our Memory Café support group for individuals with memory loss and their loved ones. The second group will be held at the Suffield Senior Center on November 29 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Please contact Pat at 860-668-1986 to register.

Are you paying too much for Medicare? Open Enrollment from October 15 through December 7 is your chance to check and change your coverage. SCA’s trained, unbiased volunteer available by appointment to help you sort it out. Give us a call to schedule your appointment.

Meals-on-Wheels: Delivered to Your Door!  Are you 60+ and homebound? Have you considered Meals-on-Wheels to alleviate the burden of cooking? Meals-on-Wheels are delivered by wonderful SCA volunteers Monday through Friday. Hot and cold meals are available, and dietary needs can be accommodated. Give us a call to see if you qualify.

Social Service Consultations at the Library: Pat Beeman, MSW, holds office hours the third Thursday of the month at KML. Residents wishing to schedule a consultation for November 17 can register online by going to If you prefer to come to the office, call 860-668-1986.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings at the Suffield Senior Center: SCA sponsors free blood pressure clinics for residents of all ages at the Suffield Senior Center on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m.– noon. No appointments needed.

We Have Durable Medical Equipment: SCA maintains a small medical loan closet of durable medical equipment for Suffield residents at no cost. Stop in or give us a call if you or a loved one could benefit from a short-term or permanent loan.
