Advent is a season of spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ (Christmas) and looks forward to the future reign of Christ. This Advent season we will be exploring miraculous births as we invite everyone to reflect on the embodiment of God as a human being: “The Word became a human being and lived among us, and we have seen his glory…” (John 1:14). In Christ, God enters human history and identifies fully with the human condition.

Following Worship on December 4, we will be “Caroling in the Community” together. We will walk to Brodeur Place and Park Place located on Bridge Street, followed by stopping at Suffield Commons. A singing voice is not necessary – just a wonderful holiday spirit and a willingness to joy to share with others.

We celebrate “Mary’s Baby Shower” on Sunday, December 18. Each year we collect items to help new mothers in need at Baystate Medical Center. Diapers & wipes, pacifiers, baby hats, baby wash/shampoo/lotion, heavy (fleece) sleepers size 0-3 months (not newborn size). Contact the church for more information.

First Church will also support Cathedral in the Night, feeding our neighbors in Northampton Mass., on December 18. Contact us for information on donating food items or volunteering to serve the meal that evening.

For many people, the approaching holiday does not bring with it the joy and happiness that is advertised. Individuals and families may be facing the death of a loved one or other losses we experience throughout our lives. First Church of Christ, Second Baptist Church, Heritage Funeral Home, Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, and Masonic Hospice will host a “The Longest Night” Service of Remembrance on Wednesday, December 21, at 7 p.m. at First Church. Each family is invited to light a candle in remembrance of their loved one during the service. Contact the church for more information or to submit a name.

We celebrate Christmas Eve with two services. Our Family Service will be held at 5 p.m. at Roaring Acres Alpaca Farm. All are welcome to attend this interactive family service; contact the church office for more information and updates.

Our Candlelight Christmas Eve Service will be held at 9 p.m. in our Sanctuary. In this meaningful way we symbolize the light of Christ coming into the darkness in the world. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Sunday worship on Christmas Day, 10 a.m. on December 25, will be available on YouTube only. We will have no in-person worship on Christmas Day.

On Sunday, January 1, we will have a joint 10 a.m. worship with our friends and neighbors at Second Baptist Church. We will gather at Second Baptist for worship, and are all welcome to stay for a brunch following worship.
