A Thankful Campout and Videogames with Troop 66

Our Scout troop had an amazing Thanksgiving camp-out. We cooked and served a big Thanksgiving meal and some desserts. We had a Cub pack, another Scout troop and other visitors over (parents, siblings, etc.), and everything tasted amazing.

On December 19, most of our troop went to Sunrise Park the night before the meal and hung out until they all had to sleep. The next day, the rest of the troop came to the cooking area to get ready to cook. The turkeys starting cooking at 9 a.m. Around 1-2 p.m. people started cooking the desserts. At around 2 p.m. the sides started being cooked. After a little bit, each patrol started cooking their desserts. They cooked their sides a bit later. During all of this, the adults were cooking the turkey.

At about 1:30 p.m., the Cub Scouts came for a hike around the pond right before eating the meal. Then, at around 3 p.m., guests started getting food (parents, Cub Scouts, the other troop, etc.) Next, at around 3:20 p.m. Scouts were finally able to eat. So many people came to eat that we (and a few other people) had to eat outside! After a little bit people started getting desserts: brownies, cookies, cakes, and more. Everyone there liked everything (that’s saying a lot, since we had an entire Cub Scout pack there.)

After everyone finished eating, we all put away the tables and chairs, swept the floors, and put out the fire. We picked up our gear from the area, headed over to the campsite to take our tents down, finished packing up, and headed home.

In December, Troop 66 had a videogame lock-in. This is an annual event. About 20 troop members were locked in the West Suffield Congregational Church Hall with videogames. Scouts brought laptops, desktops, monitors, TVs, Nintendo Switches and other gaming devices. Scouts also brought snacks like cookies, chips and soda. A few parents stayed overnight with the troop. People started arriving at 6 p.m. to begin setting up. Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 266 were invited to join until 10 p.m.

During the lock-in, people played videogames, had snacks and talked. There were some Smash Bros. tournaments, Minecraft, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, and other games. A few people stayed up all night. In the morning, Scouts cleaned up and were picked up at 8 a.m. Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to next year.
