During January 2023 two members of Second Baptist Church traveled to the Dominican Republic to continue the mission work that began in 2001 by Sue Schneller. Here are the reflections of Corey Haynes and Schneller:

Sue Schneller shares her love of playing games with the children in the Dominican Republic.

“Our January 2023 trip to the Dominican Republic was rewarding in so many ways. We were able to check up on old friends and accomplish so much. We built a retaining wall for Miss Linda and began work on a bathroom for her. We delivered food and school supplies to families and worked in a preschool and an elementary school. This trip involved care for people with medical issues and prayer with those who have lost hope. Trips like this to the Dominican Republic are so important to those we serve and to those who go.

“Something changes inside when you realize the world is bigger than your backyard. Going on mission trips opens your eyes to another way of life. You learn firsthand that you can make a difference.

“After seeing how little others have, it really puts things in perspective. It makes you reevaluate your needs and reconsider how you spend money. Seeing how happy others can be with what little they have is eye opening and makes us so grateful for the many blessings we have.

“We have another trip planned for August and are looking for adults and teens who want to join us. If you are interested, please call the church office 860-668-1661.”
