Why You Should Do Tae Kwon Do

Suffield Tae Kwon Do (STKDA). Have you ever heard of it? Well, you’re probably saying, “No, what is Suffield Tae Kwon Do?” After you read this article, not only will you know what it is, but you’ll also want to join!

If you’ve ever heard of Suffield Village Market (previously Highland Park), it’s in that plaza. If you ask somebody, I’m sure they’d know. It’s pretty much right in the center of town! The instructor/owner’s name is David Moradi, and this is how he said he got started: “I asked a friend of mine to introduce me to a martial art,” he said “and he told his friend who had a Tae Kwon Do studio.” This is how Master David Moradi began his Tae Kwon Do career. He is now a 7th degree black belt and he owns two Tae Kwon Do studios, one in Suffield and the other in Greenwich.

So, now you’re probably wondering, “Okay, but when would I go?” Well, there are several times based on age (not belt rank). Classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 p.m.-5:15 p.m. for 6 year olds, all levels; 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. for 7, 8, 9, and 10 year olds, all levels; 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. for 11, 12, 13, and 14 year olds, all levels; and 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. for 15 year olds and up, all levels. But now you’re probably thinking, “Okay I know all the information, but really, why should I join?” Well, as Master Moradi said when I interviewed him, “It teaches fitness, concentration, and self-confidence.” When I asked him the question, “Why do you like Tae Kwon Do?” He said, “ I do not like it. I LOVE it.” And personally, as the writer of this article, I think, if you have read this much, then you’re probably interested. And if you’re interested, I think you would love it too.

As a student of STKDA for over a year, I can say it has been wonderful doing Tae Kwon Do. I have improved so much, and I am thoroughly enjoying my experience there. I began last year (2021) when I was nine years old. I am now a green belt-black stripe, and know many punches, kicks, forms, combat combinations, and blocks. I also enjoy Friday sparring. We learn new moves and free spar almost every Friday. I am so glad to have discovered STKDA, and hope you will check it out, too!
